Seniors: Did you miss your prom? Here’s your chance to re-live it

This is the kind of press release I wish Rec & Park would have been more timely with, but nevertheless, I thought this was worth mentioning because it’s, well, adorable.

This Thursday, Rec & Park is hosting the 31st annual Senior Prom for the 55+ crowd at the County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park (9th & Lincoln). From 12noon to 3:30pm, senior men and women are invited to re-live their high school prom.

Let’s pretend that the hours of the prom are 12midnight to 3:30am which would be more realistic for an actual high school crowd these days. What kind of trouble are these seniors going to get into? I hope they patrol the parking lots for neckers and steamed up windows. And let’s hope they check their pockets for flasks and funny smelling cigarettes. Will someone be watching the punch bowl closely?

The prom is free to anyone over the age of 55 and according to the press release, “participants will enjoy dancing, demonstrations, a photo booth, light snacks and raffle prizes.” A photo booth?! Oh my, they better watch that curtain closely!

If you’re going to head to the prom with your posse or entourage of 15 or more seniors, you’ll need to pre-register by calling (415) 242-1515.

In all seriousness, I love this event. I had high school dances in that very building so if I am back there dancing and flirting when I hit 55+, it’ll be awesome!

  1. If it’s really scheduled for Midnight, I doubt many seniors (including myself) will be there…
