Police Blotter – July 8, 2011

CAPTAIN KEITH SANFORD’S MESSAGE
Independence Day in the Richmond District was uneventful and filled with celebratory venues. Traffic concerns were minimal and our efforts at the beach with the Rangers/Beach Patrol were positive.

National Night Out will be celebrated on August 2, 2011 from 5pm – 8pm, located at Richmond Police Station /Anza Mini Park. We anticipate hosting the event with the Richmond Station Police Advisory Board Member and SAFE. The event will comprise of food, drinks, and activities for seniors, children and families. Lt. M. Moore is the “National Night Out” liaison and she can be reached at (415) 666-8000 for additional information. We look forward to meeting all our business and community members at this wonderful event!

The Richmond Police Station, Police Community Relations Forum will be hosted at the station on July 19th, 2011, 1pm. The topic of conversation will be “Senior Activities and Concerns” Refreshments (sandwiches and drinks) will be provided for attendees.

The Police Commission Meeting will be hosted by the members of the Richmond Police Station on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 6pm. Location to be determined.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 07/01 at 12:40am, two suspects entered a business on the 2000 block of Clement St. [Aladdin Rugs], both armed with handguns and wearing ski masks. They demanded jewelry and cash from the two victims and fled the scene. Both of the victims began to chase the suspects, all the while yelling for help. Several citizens heard their cries and began to follow the suspects in their cars, also calling 911. The first suspect was taken into custody at 21st & California and a gun and the victims’ property was recovered in his backpack. The second suspect was taken into custody at 15th & Geary and a gun was recovered in his waistband. Two other suspects were also located trying to flee the scene in a vehicle. The three males, ages 23 and 17 and the one female, age 22 were charged with robbery, burglary, possession of firearms and possession of stolen property.

On 07/02 at 1:45pm, officers responded to the area of the Aids Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park regarding a male ripping apart a fence and threatening to expose himself to the caller. Officers detained the 42 year old male who was under the influence of alcohol. The victim told the officer that the suspect had made lewd sexual remarks and ripped apart the bamboo fence, swinging the piece around like a sword. He was charged with vandalism and being drunk in public.

On 07/03 at 1pm, officer responded to the area of the 3900 block of California St on a report of a male who exposed himself to a female juvenile. The girl told her mom and pointed out the suspect to her. Officers located and detained the suspect at Spruce and California. The 58 year old male was charged with indecent exposure.

On 07/07 at 12:20am, officers were called to the area of the 200 block of 2nd Ave on a report of a male vandalizing vehicles in the area. The caller had reported that he observed the suspect bend the windshield wipers on three vehicles as well as ripping of the side view mirror of one of them. Officers located the suspect, a 45 year old male at California & Arguello. He was charged with felony vandalism and drunk in public.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 07/02 at 9:05pm, the victim was walking on the 200 block of Walnut St. Two suspects approached her, one armed with a handgun. The suspect told the victim to give up her phone, and after the victim complied the suspects fled east onto Clay St. The suspects were described as males in their early 20’s wearing dark hooded sweatshirts.

On 07/06 at 12:10am, the victim was walking on Geary Blvd neat 23rd Ave. The two suspects, one armed with a handgun approached the victim from behind. The suspects demanded the victims money and fled south on 23rd Ave towards Anza St. The suspects were described as males in their early 20’s wearing all black clothing.

On 07/06 between 11am and 3:30pm on the 400 block of 8th Ave, a suspect gained entry into a residence by kicking in the front door. The suspect took cash.

On 07/06 between 12:30pm and 3:40pm on the 500 block of 27th Ave, a suspect gained entry into a residence by prying open the front gate and door. The suspect took cash, jewelry and a camera.

On 07/06 between 1:30pm and 9:20pm on the 600 block of 36th Ave, a suspect pried open the front gate and front door of a home, but it does not appear that entry was made into the home.

  1. Perhaps those using a gun to commit a crime should be met with a gun.

  2. I love how our fellow residents jumped in and helped to apprehend the suspects! We have a great community!

  3. again with the raceless perps – ppfft! – what do you cops do when you have an artist’s rendering of a perp? – do you leave their race or color out of the picture??? – it’s ridiculous!!! – PC run amok!
