And so it shall spin. Murphy Windmill gets its sails

After getting its cap put back on last week, the historic Murphy Windmill in the southwest corner of Golden Gate Park got its sails back this week.

Isn’t it nice to have two functioning windmills at the corners of our park?

  1. Totally awesome! However, It is not ‘working’ yet, it will be, still a lot of work to be done. =)

  2. It is great to see a piece of history restored instead of just being demolished (like the old academy of sciences was) hopefully this trend of saving historic structures continues. However the one thing I dont like about the new windmill is that it is not facing the ocean, otherwise job well done!

  3. Excellent – I was there at the dome placement. I didnt know theyd get the sails up so soon.

  4. Joshua, the cap of the windmills can rotate to catch the wind. It’ll face the ocean once it’s working. The facing it has now was likely to accommodate the crane that put the cap on and stocks in.
