CAPTAIN RICHARD CORREIA’S MESSAGE
As of September 30, 2009 there have been 215 injury accidents in the Richmond District. During the entire year of 2008 there were 310 injury accidents, including four fatalities. There have been no fatalities this year. Please drive carefully and obey all traffic laws.
We are in the process of forming a community advisory board for the Richmond Police District. If the notion of participating interests you, kindly send me an email and I will send you some literature that describes the functions of the board, time commitments and objectives. If you have already sent me an email I will be sending out literature this week.
During the past week, there were 32 traffic accidents, 7 involving injuries. There were 8 citations issued for driving without a license or driving on a suspended license. There were 3 arrests for driving under the influence.
NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 10/17/09 at 4:00am a woman walking on Pine near Divisadero was robbed of her cell phone. The suspect approached her from behind and grabbed her cell phone out of her hand. The suspect attempted to take her purse as well, and when the victim wouldn’t release it to him, the suspect punched her in the face. The suspect fled with the phone. A neighbor heard her screams and as he came out of his house he saw the suspect run by. The witness recognized the male as someone living in the neighborhood. The neighbor was able to provide the suspect’s first name to the officers. Members of our plainclothes team felt they knew who the suspect was and did ultimately identify him. On 10/20/09 at 12:17pm the plainclothes officers located the suspect asleep in a stolen car on the 1400 block of Baker Street. The 52 year old male suspect was charged with robbery, aggravated assault and stolen vehicle.
On 10/20/09 at 1:18am, plainclothes officers were in the area of 44th Avenue and Fulton due to auto burglaries occurring in the area. Officers observed a suspect standing next to an open rear door of a parked vehicle. The officers saw broken glass at the suspect’s feet. The suspect closed the door to the car, and then closed the trunk lid, which was also open. At that point the suspect made eye contact with the officers and he quickly began to walk away. A short foot chase ensued and the suspect was captured inside Golden Gate Park seconds later. Officers located the registered owner of the vehicle and gave the officers a list of items missing from her car. Those items were found on the suspect’s person. The suspect, a 24-year-old male on probation for burglary, was charged with auto burglary, possession of stolen property and a probation violation.
On 10/21/09 at 8:10pm, officers were called to the 3400 block of California Street on a report of an unconscious male in a car. When officers arrived they found the person non-responsive and noticed he had a syringe on his lap. Officers open the door to the vehicle and the individual woke up. An ambulance responded and transported the individual to the hospital for treatment. A large amount of narcotics was found in the interior of the vehicle and the subject was charged with narcotic violations.
NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 10/1/09 at 12:12am officers responded to a call of an assault victim at 37th Avenue and Fulton. Officers located the victim who was bleeding from facial injuries. The victim was not able to provide much information but said he had been hanging out with “3 guys†who disrespected him and assaulted him. The victim made mention of a vehicle which the officers located unoccupied. Officers found physical evidence related to the assault in the vehicle so it was towed for further investigation. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he treated for serious injuries.
On 10/18 at 7:43am a victim was starting to back her car out of a parking space on the 800 block of 47th Avenue. Suddenly a suspect appeared at the driver’s side door and opened it. The suspect sprayed the victim in the face with pepper spray and she jumped out of her car. The suspect then fled in the vehicle. An ambulance was summoned for the victim. The suspect was described as a male, 35-40 years of age, with blond hair, wearing a ¾ length jacket.
On 10/18/09 at 11:22am on the 400 block of Clement Street a male entered the bank armed with a handgun. He approached one of the tellers and demanded money. The teller complied and the suspect fled the bank. He was described as a male, 50-55 years of age, wearing sunglasses, a light colored hat and blue jeans.
On 10/20/09 at 2:00pm a victim was jogging on Post Street near Scott Street listening to music on her I-Phone. She had earphones in both ears. A suspect stopped her and tapped on his wrist while asking for the time. When the victim looked down at her watch, the suspect grabbed her I-phone and fled west on Post St. The suspect is a male in his 20’s wearing a light blue windbreaker and white t-shirt.
On 10/20/09 at 9:15pm a victim was standing at 26th Avenue and Geary when a male came by pushing his car west bound on Geary. The suspect waved the victim over and asked him for help. The suspect asked if he could use the victim’s cell phone to call for help. The victim gave it to the suspect who then proceeded to jump into his car and drove off west on Geary. The suspect was described as a male with dark hair and a beret style hat and blue jeans. The suspect’s vehicle was described as a silver sedan.
On 10/21/09 between 9:00am and 8:30pm on the 500 block of 27th Avenue a suspect entered an apartment and took a game system, cameras and a laptop. The suspect gained access to the apartment buildings roof and then entered the victim’s apartment through an open window.
On 10/22/09 at 12:55am a victim was walking on Geary near 21st Avenue. She was looking down at her phone texting while when a suspect approached her from behind. The suspect grabbed the victim’s phone from her hand, but she grabbed it back and the suspect fled to an awaiting vehicle which fled south on 21st Avenue. The suspect is a 17 to 19 year old male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.
