Lincoln Park Playground, located at 33rd Avenue and Clement Street here in the Richmond, has closed down for a major renovation that will last until February, 2010.
Work crews are there now finishing demolition of the old structures and erecting fencing. New construction begins Monday. The $934,824 project is funded by the San Francisco Recreations & Park Department.
Kids and tots in the neighborhood have a lot to look forward to. The playground is being completely redesigned and will include new play equipment, safety surfacing and new furnishings. The renovation also calls for new seatwalls and landscaping.
Like many modern playgrounds, Lincoln will have two distinct sections – one for children age 2-5, the other designed with taller, more complex structures for kids age 5-12. Project manager Meghan Tiernan tells me “this will be great for the pre-schools in the area that use Lincoln Playground.”
The large, adjoining lawn will also be fenced off during construction, while crews reshape part of it to create a level playing area.
While the Lincoln playground is closed, SF Rec & Park recommends visiting these other neighborhood parks:
– Rochambeau Playground, 25th Avenue between Calif. & Lake
– Argonne Playgrouns on 18th Avenue between Geary & Anza
– Fulton Playground on 27th Avenue between Cabrillo and Fulton
– Cabrillo on 37th Avenue between Cabrillo & Fulton
Other playgrounds in the Richmond will also be renovated in the coming months. According to the Rec & Park Capital Projects website, the Cabrillo playground project will begin in late summer 2009 and will include “the repair and/or renovation of the clubhouse, the children’s play areas, picnic area and courts; restoration of paving and pathways; upgrades to the infrastructure including lighting, modifications to the site to remove barriers and improve accessibility, and overall reconditioning of the park landscape”.
The Fulton Playground project is still in planning mode but will include “the repair and/or renovation of the clubhouse, the two children’s play areas, and courts; restoration of existing roads and pathways; upgrades to the infrastructure including lighting, modifications to the site to remove barriers and improve accessibility, and overall reconditioning of the park landscape”.
Both the Cabrillo and Fulton playground projects are funded by the 2008 Clean & Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond.
