Yoga for the kiddies; fall sessions start soon

The Ms. Homa, of Yoga with Miss Homa, got in touch to tell me about the children’s yoga classes that she offers here in the Richmond District.

Homa, a certified children’s yoga instructor, offers group classes for kids age 2.5 to 11 years old. Classes are normally 45 minutes long (30 minutes for children younger than 4 yrs.) and start with an opening circle, a song, yoga asanas, a breathing exercise, cool down and a closing circle.

According to her website, Homa’s goal is to help kids gain higher self-esteem by helping them get to know their bodies better. From balance to flexibility to trying challenging positions, yoga strengthens the mind (focus), body (coordination) and more importantly a child’s sense of self (confidence).

Just like Kix cereal, the kids won’t even know they’re getting all that good stuff because they’ll be too busy having a good time. ‘Have Fun’ is the very first item on the school’s short list of rules. The other two are ‘Be safe to all bodies’ and ‘Be a good listener’.

Classes are held at two different locations: St. James School at 4620 California at 8th Avenue, or at Elevation Yoga Studio at 3425 Balboa Street at 35th Avenue. Rates range from $10-$20 for a group class to $120 for a 6-week session. View class schedule.

New Fall sessions start this Thursday, September 17th, but drop-in classes are also available. Visit Ms. Homa’s website for more information, email her, or call 752-2192.

Looking for a great birthday party idea? Ms. Homa will host a Birthday Yoga Party for you. 90 minutes of your child and friends getting flexible, plus party gifts. Great idea.
