Thanksgiving Day hit and run in the Presidio

[My earlier version of this post incorrectly labeled this accident as a fatality. The victim did not die and was recently released from the ICU and is resting at home. Yay! – Sarah B.]

On Thanksgiving day at about 3:30pm, a woman was struck by a hit and run driver near Lincoln Boulevard and Langdon Court in the Presidio. According to a KCBS report (audio below), the woman was a well-known speedwalker that lived just outside the Presidio gates.

Presidio Trust spokesman Clay Harrell says the car involved in the hit and run is described as a dark green, 1991-1994 Chevy Blazer Ford Explorer with Colorado plates, a broken/missing right mirror and excessive exhaust.

“The Park Police will be reviewing tapes of the bridge traffic for that day and they’ve also put out an all points bulletin,” Polk said.

If you have any information that might be helpful to the police investigating the hit and run, please call Dectective Robert Reidy at (415) 561-5148 or the anonymous tip line at (415) 561-5150.

Many of you may remember a similar hit and run death of 27-year-old Ashlyn Dyer in March of 2006 in the Presidio. That case also remains unsolved.

  1. I always drive home using that Lincoln Road and I see an older lady wearing headphones and a yellow rain jacket walking nearly every day. I think she walks all the way along El Camino Del Mar across the bridge and back again every night.

As soon as I read this story I instantly thought of it might be this lady because 1.) I always see her walking along that route. 2.) She always has headphones on. 3.) She always walks on the side of oncoming traffic in the roard which always seemed like an good way to get hit on that really curvy, dark road.

I hope that this isn’t the yellow jacketed lady and if anyone has seen her walking (which I didn’t yesterday which also raised my suspicions) please comment back here and let everyone know what’s up.

BTW does anyone ever comment on any of these stories or was this writing a huge waste of time? Get back to me on that one too….

  2. Hi Eno – Sounds like you may be talking about the victim. She has yet to be identified but your description of her matches what the radio story said. It’s very sad.

And yes, people do comment on the blog but not as frequently as I would like! So don’t hesitate to leave your thoughts, it’s always appreciated. 😉

  3. Eno – That lady is the first person that crossed my mind when reading the article. I see her every day driving home from work. I hope it’s not her.
I haven’t seen her as recently once the time change occurred since I get home relatively late and the sun is long past down now.

  4. I also thought about the older lady in the yellow. She comes through about 5 pm I will look for her today, hope its not her.

  5. Hi all – Just got updated that the accident did NOT result in a fatality which is GREAT news. The woman is home from the hospital and resting.

  6. Just got a confirmed sighting from a friend of the yellow jacketed lady strolling along her normal route with her headphones on joyfully walking on the side of oncoming traffic as she always does. So it wasn’t her which is good but I hope for a speedy recovery for whoever did end up getting hit.

  7. Actually, I saw her the last couple of days. She actually walks on the correct side of the road! I’ve seen moms with strollers on the other side (going towards the bridge) with the traffic, and that is asking for trouble!

If the US Park Police would be out on Lincoln and surroundings, perhaps traffic would be more respectful. I see speeding vehicles all the time, driving along Lincoln twice a day on most days…

  8. Hi Julie – Not sure, I have not heard any update on this issue since it happened (other than the woman returned home from the hospital a few days after it happened). Let’s hope they did!
