CAPTAIN RICHARD CORREIA’S MESSAGE
Throughout this year Richmond Station officers have worked diligently on traffic enforcement and education. Our intent continues to be to reduce collision related injuries and make our neighborhoods safer for pedestrians and motorists. Our radar trailer indicating speed is deployed daily and year to date officers have issued 10,000 citations and arrested 124 drunk drivers.
During the past week, there were 26 traffic accidents, 8 involving injuries. There were 3 citations issued for driving without a license or driving on a suspended license. There were 4 arrests for driving under the influence.
NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 12/07/09 at 2:00pm officers responded to Geary & Arguello on a report of graffiti on a MUNI coach. Officers immediately detained one juvenile male at the scene, and two other male juveniles were located at 2nd Avenue and Balboa a short time later. Witnesses told the officers that the three had gotten on the bus near 30th Avenue and Geary and the first suspect affixed a sticker to the inside of the bus. The second suspect began to do graffiti all over the walls and windows and then broke the glass cover on the emergency stop lever. The male pulled the lever causing the bus to come to a stop at 3rd Avenue and Geary Boulevard. The three juveniles then ran off the back door of the bus. Once outside they vandalized the outside of the bus. A passing motorist saw the suspects “tagging†the front of the bus. When the suspect saw he was being watched, he threw his paint pen marker at the car causing paint to splatter on the car. Two of the suspects were determined to be runaways and all three were charged with
vandalism.
On 12/09/09 at 3:10pm officers were in the area of 8th Avenue and Anza when they attempted to stop a vehicle for a moving violation. They vehicle sped off and went north on 7th Avenue from Anza Street. The vehicle finally stopped at 6th Avenue and Geary where a traffic stop was effected. Another officer, who was nearby, was stopped by a passerby who told the him that as the suspect vehicle traveled down 7th Avenue the driver tossed a loaded gun magazine out of the window. The officer found the magazine. A second magazine was found nearby and officers discovered brass knuckles and ammunition inside the suspect vehicle. The 29 year old male was charged with possession of prohibited weapons.
NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 12/06/09 at 1:30am a victim was driving eastbound on Cornwall at 5th Avenue. The driver in front of him was driving erratically and the victim tooted his horn. The suspect, who was driving a black SUV, suddenly stopped his vehicle then reversed and hit the front of the victim’s car. The driver then sped off east on Cornwall.
On 12/07 between 10:30am and 6:30pm on the 1700 block of Pierce St, a suspect gained entry into an apartment and took a laptop, camera and jewelry. There were no signs of forced entry.
On 12/07 between 2:00pm and 7:00pm on the 600 block of Arguello, a suspect gained entry into an apartment garage and took a vehicle. There were no signs of forced entry.
On 12/08 at 3:50am on the 2200 block of Post St, a suspect gained entry into an office building and forced the door open to one of the offices. The loss is being determined and entry may have been made through a rear door.
