Police Blotter – May 14, 2010

CAPTAIN RICHARD CORREIA’S MESSAGE

During the past week, there were 12 traffic accidents, 4 involving injuries. There were 6 citations issued for driving without a license or driving on a suspended license. There were 3 arrests for driving under the influence.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 05/08/10 at 2:00am a male suspect walked into a restaurant on the 4600 block of Geary and cut to the front of the line. An employee told the suspect that he needed to go to the back of the line whereupon the male smashed the cash register using his two fists. When told by the employee that the police were being called the suspect went out into the parking lot. When the officers arrived they located the suspect who was intoxicated. The 27 year old male was charged with vandalism and being drunk in public.

On 05/08/10 at 7:21pm a male called 911 to report that he had been assaulted at a casino back in 2006. He was also reporting that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and was requesting the police to come to his home. Responding officers located an out of county warrant for the caller’s arrest. Prior to officers’ arriving the male called back to 911 and to say that he wanted to cancel the police response. When told that the officers were already out in front of his home, he told the dispatcher that he was armed with a potato peeler and wasn’t coming out. The suspect finally agreed to open the door and was detained by the officers. He was charged with the warrant and harassment of the 911 dispatch center.

On 05/12/10 at 1:30pm officers were called to the area of Rossi Playground at Anza and Arguello. The caller reported that there were four male juveniles sitting on the bleachers and one had a gun. Numerous officers responded and detained the four. One of the males had an “Uzi” style BB gun in his backpack and the other tried to conceal his BB gun under the bleachers. The parents of all four juveniles were contacted and the two with the BB guns were cited.

On 05/12/10 at 7:27pm plainclothes officers were in the area of Post and Broderick Streets when they observed a male suspect that they knew was on probation. As they approached him he took off running and was finally detained a short distance away. The 17 year old male was found to be in possession of narcotics. He was charged with the narcotic violation and delaying a police officer.

On 05/14/10 at 3:00am officers were called to the 3400 block of Geary on a report of 4 male suspects breaking into a business. The caller reported that he saw one of the suspects kick out the the front door glass and then a second suspect entered the store through the broken door. Officers arrived on scene and observed one suspect standing inside the business with wine bottles in his hand. When he saw the officers he dropped the wine and dove through the door. A foot pursuit ensued and the suspect was detained at Anza and Beaumont. A USF Public Safety officer was in the area as well and had been alerted by SFPD officers of what had just occurred. As the Public Safety officer got to Stanyan and Anza he saw a male matching the description standing on the corner holding several bottles of wine. The officer told the suspect not to move and with that the suspect put the bottles of wine down and ran. The Public Safety officer was familiar with this suspect and said, “I know who you are, don’t run from me. ” When the officer called the suspect by his nickname, he surrendered. The officer could see that the male was bleeding heavily from his right arm so he requested an ambulance. This suspect had cut himself on the glass while fleeing from the business. The two males, both 20 years of age where charged with burglary, possession of stolen property and delaying a police officer.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 05/09/10 between 4:00am and 8:00am on the 3800 block of Geary Boulevard a suspect broke the plate glass window at a business and gained entry. Once inside the suspect took cash, 2 laptop computers and a camera.

On 05/11/10 at 3:05am occupant of a residence being remodeled on the 600 block of 41st Avenue heard loud noises from in front of his home. When he looked outside he saw two males standing in front a temporary wooden enclosure in his driveway. The resident yelled at the two suspects who ran off west bound on Balboa Street . The victim went outside and discovered that the padlock had been cut from the door to the enclosure. He also located several other items that had been taken from a construction site two houses away. The suspects were described as two males in dark sweatshirts.

Between 05/11/10 at 7:00pm and 05/12/10 at 6:00am on the 300 block of 6th Avenue a suspect smashed the glass on the front door of a business. The suspect gained entry and took cash.

On 05/12/10 at 10:05pm the two victims were walking westbound on Turk Street approaching Willard North. Two suspects came from north bound Willard North and approached the two victims. Both suspects were armed with handguns and demanded the victim’s property. The suspects then fled south on Willard North. The suspects were described as males in their late teens or early 20’s. One was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and the other a dark sweatshirt.
