Breaking news: Early 2011 opening for Fresh & Easy Market

I got a call this afternoon from Brendan Wonnacott, the Communications Director for Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets. He wanted to let me (and the neighborhood) know that they’re closing in on a firm move-in date for their new store at 3132 Clement at 32nd Avenue.

“We’ll be moving in early next year,” he told me while at an event for a new store opening in San Diego. Wonnacott couldn’t confirm whether that meant the first or second quarter of 2011, but he assured me plans were moving forward to open their Clement Street location in “early 2011”.

I asked Wonnacott how Fresh & Easy’s timing would sync up with that of CVS Pharmacy, who plans to occupy the other half of the large Clement Street retail space. He was unsure of the latest CVS timeline, but if all goes well it sounds like they could open around the same time.

The official press release about the Fresh & Easy Clement Street location will hit the wires tomorrow. I’ll update this article with any additional information.

Are you excited by this news? I am. It’s nice to know that giant space will be filled with two useful businesses for the outer Richmond.

  1. Good to know! I love to shop at independent markets, but sometimes they don’t have everything you need, and the alternatives–Safeway and TJ’s–can be pretty far away for people in the middle of the Richmond.

  2. It’ll be nice–even though CVS is a national chain–to have an alternative to Walgreen’s! Plus, hopefully they’ll start taking care of all those beautiful trees and plants there, they need some love…
