CAPTAIN RICHARD CORRIEA’S MESSAGE
On February 10, 2011 at shortly after 2:00 A.M. a vehicle that was heading east bound on Geary Boulevard struck another vehicle at the intersection of Geary and Arguello. Each vehicle contained a single occupant. The driver of the vehicle that was traveling northbound on Arguello was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injures. The collision is currently under investigation and the surviving driver has been booked for vehicular manslaughter. Inspectors are analyzing evidence collected at the scene in an effort to determine all of the factors that led to this tragedy; however, because of the tremendous amount of damage to the vehicles we know that excessive speed was one of the causes.

Please drive safely, defenselessly and at the legal speed limit.

Suddenly the suspects stopped the car and ran away on foot. The officers spoke with the suspects who were 14 years of age and determined that the vehicle did not belong to them. Officers learned the following: Both of the victims were on a charter bus that was parked. An intoxicated male, who was not part of their group got on the bus and tried to speak to one of the female passengers. The driver told the male to exit and the suspect became belligerent. One of the male passengers on the bus went to help the bus driver and was promptly head-butted in the nose by the suspect. The driver was punched in the jaw by the suspect who then fled the bus. While officers were searching the area for the suspect the two victims located the suspect on the 300 block of 4th Avenue and were holding him down on the ground. On 02/07/11 at 2:50am on the 4400 block of Cabrillo Street a victim had gotten into a car with a suspect who was an acquaintance of the victim’s roommate. The suspect started reversing the vehicle before the victim had a chance to shut the door and the door hit the wall of a building, causing damage to the car. The victim then went back inside his residence as the suspect was angry at him for the damage to the door. Shortly thereafter the suspect burst into the victim’s apartment, beat the victim into unconsciousness, took his wallet and other items, and then fled the scene. An ambulance was summoned to the scene to treat the victim, who refused further medical treatment. Other Richmond Station officers continued to investigate. They were able to find an old address for the suspect and went to that location at 7:00 that morning, where they located the suspect’s vehicle. They found the suspect asleep in the back seat of the car. The 20 year old, who is on probation for a prior burglary, was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and possession of stolen property.

  1. Do you think the Chief means “defensively” instead of “defenselessly?”
