Win a 6-week outdoor boot camp session in GGP with Koi Fitness

Looking for a new workout? Bored with your usual trips to the gym or runs around the neighborhood? Or maybe you’re thinking about starting to workout for the first time in your life.

I recommend checking out Koi Fitness, a company that runs outdoor fitness boot camps in Golden Gate Park. For some, the word boot camp conjures up muscled men yelling at you to do more pushups, but I promise it’s not like that. Koi has great trainers who don’t yell and scream (but they will push you out of your comfort zone a bit).

Koi offers morning classes (6am, 7am) and evening classes (6pm) in Golden Gate Park, and even a Saturday class (9am) at Baker Beach. You can pick and choose what classes you go to. Each “camp” runs for six weeks and includes a fitness assessment, four 1-hour workouts per week, dietary tips, and nutritional counseling.

Workouts vary from day to day. One day you’ll focus on sprints and agility, another day on running, and another day you may be powering up hills or working on your core strength. The variety is one of the best things about Koi; you never know what’s in store for your workout.

Unlike some boot camps that throw everyone together in the same group, Koi assesses you on day 1 so they can have you working out with people at your similar fitness level. They’re not out to break you. Instead, you gain strength and confidence while being led by skilled, friendly trainers.

I’ve been working out with Koi for the past 5 years. I love it all – the workouts, the trainers and the phenomenal “gym” that is Golden Gate Park. Nothing beats seeing the sun come up from atop Strawberry Hill or watching the mist over Spreckels Lake in the morning.

The next 6 week session starts on March 28th and we’re giving away a free Koi session here on the blog. Use it for the March 28 session or for another date. To enter for a chance to win, just use the contact form to send us an email and include your name and phone number. Entries are due by midnight on March 14.

And even if you don’t win, you can check out Koi Fitness for free by taking advantage of the trial classes during the first week of the March 28 session. Just email admin@koifitness.com or call 317-6565 to arrange for your free trial.

  1. Well, I have been doing the Koi program for more than eight years. I love it. Much much better than a gym. Great community. Great support. And, really, when you get down to it, the instructors get me doing things I’d bag on in a heartbeat…. Get thyself out there!
