Concert reading of Mozart’s Don Giovanni at St. John’s Church, April 16 & 17

This Saturday and Sunday there is a special performance of a concert reading of Mozart’s Don Giovanni at St. John’s Presbyterian Church on the corner of Arguello and Lake Streets.

Cliff, one of the cast members who plays Leporello, reached out to tell me about the event:

What started as a simple plan to hire a pianist and put together a reading of this operatic masterpiece has become “The Giovanni Project,” a concert reading of Mozart’s Don Giovanni. Sung in Italian with English narration (written and compiled by us), our outstanding cast (if we do say so ourselves) will be led by music director and pianist Curt Pajer.

Should be an interesting show. Wikipedia describes the protagonist in the opera as “a young, arrogant, sexually prolific nobleman, who abuses and outrages everyone else in the cast, until he encounters something he cannot kill, beat up, dodge, or outwit.” Sounds like one of our modern reality shows.

The performance doesn’t have a set ticket price, but to cover production costs they’re asking attendees to donate at least $1. Saturday’s show begins at 7:30pm, Sunday’s at 7pm.

Break a leg, Cliff!
