Police Blotter – September 2, 2011

CAPTAIN KEITH SANFORD’S MESSAGE
Richmond Police Station held the Police Commission Meeting on August 31, 2011, 6pm at Roosevelt Middle School. Deputy Chief K. Cashman and Commander M. Ali represented the Executive Branch of the SFPD. An overview of the Richmond Police District was presented by Captain K. Sanford. Mr. E. Love Jr. was presented a Police Commission Commendation for his assistance in capturing a burglary suspect on Pierce St , which occurred on June 15, 2011. Mr. Love Jr. tackled the suspect and held him until police arrived. Mr. Love Jr. is also a graduate of Sacred Heart High School here in the city having played defensive back in football.

The Richmond Police Station Advisory Board was represented by P. Motley, S. Williams, J. Elia, D. Boven, J. Douglas and Mrs. Rillo. David Heller from the Geary Blvd. Merchant’s Assoc., J. Lynch from Senior Action Network and B. Toomey from Assemblywoman Fiona Ma’s Office were in attendance also. We look forward to next year’s presentation.

With the implementation of our enforcement plan to combat auto burglaries, we have arrested two suspects involved in car break-ins in the district. A suspect was also arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle on the Great Highway . We’re investigating this case to see if this suspect has been involved in other related crimes in the area.

The PCRF (Police Community Relations Forum) will be held on Sept. 20th at 1pm and 7pm. Discussion topics will be GG Park related concerts, crime and traffic issues/open agenda. Refreshments will be served at both meetings. The meetings will be held at Richmond Station.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 08/27 at 5:24am, officers were sent to the area of the 3400 block of Pacific on an auto burglary. The caller provided a description of the suspect and direction of travel. Officers located and detained the suspect as he sat on some stairs, looking through several bags. The caller stated that they had observed the suspect walking along the sidewalk trying the handles of parked vehicles. He then observed the suspect open the door of the victim’s vehicle and rifle around inside. Officers were able to locate property on the suspect for two different victims and made contact with them. The 40 year old male was charged with possession of stolen property and theft from a vehicle.

On 08/31 at 9:50am, officers detained 3 truants at 33rd and Clement St . One of the three went to a school nearby and was taken there. The other 2 went to high school in another neighborhood but it was determined that one of the boys was in possession of a folding knife, and the other was in possession of tobacco products. There parents were contacted and the juveniles were issued citations.

On 09/01 at 6:30am, officers responded to a call of an auto burglary or auto theft in progress at 1000 Great Highway. The caller was a security guard in the area and had detained two suspects. When the officers arrived the suspects said that the car did not belong to them but to a girl they knew that loaned it to them for a couple of days. Officers found paper work in the vehicle which led them to an address on Irving St and they were able to contact the owner. The owner stated that his vehicle should have been parked across the street from his home and was now missing. Officers released the vehicle to the owner, and the suspect/driver of the vehicle was charged with stolen auto.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 08/30 at 5:50am, on the 2900 block of Sacramento , the victim awoke to a loud noise in her apartment. She then heard the sound of window being pushed open. She got up to investigate and as she got to the doorway of her living room she saw the outline of a male standing inside the room. She fled her apartment to neighbors and called 911. The officers determined that the suspect had fled the scene. The suspect entered the apartment via an unlocked window off of the fire escape. As the room was still dark, the victim was unable to provide a description of the male.

On 08/31 between 1:30pm and 3:30pm on the 2600 block of McAllister, a suspect gained entry into a residence and took 2 laptops, an I-pod and a video game controller. The side door may have been left unlocked.

On 09/01 at 12am, the victim was walking on Geary near 4th Ave. The victim was pushed to the ground from behind by an unknown suspect. As the victim was on the ground, the suspect went through the victim’s pants pockets and took his wallet and cell phone and fled the scene. The victim who reported the incident the next day stated that he never got a look at the suspect.

On 09/02 between 10am and 7pm on the 3000 block of Cabrillo a suspect gained entry into an apartment by prying open a rear door. The suspect took laptops, jewelry and cash.
