From Captain Simon Silverman

Join the SFPD:
Find out more about joining the SFPD at www.sfpdcareers.com. Our recruitment slogan is “Ordinary People doing the Extraordinary!” Here are some of the extraordinary (and ordinary) things that happened in the Richmond Police District this week:

PACKAGE THEFT
05-14-2015 2:37 PM
California & Pierce
The suspect stole a package that had been delivered to the door step of a home. The resident’s security camera captured images of the suspect and the theft.
Suspect: Black male, 45-50 years old, wearing a blue and white jacket, blue jeans and white shoes, carrying a brown paper shopping bag

ARREST: PAROLEE AT LARGE / BURGLARY WARRANT
05-15-2015 6:00 PM
The Great Highway & JFK
Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person possibly casing to break into cars. They detained the suspect and found that he had a warrant for two counts of burglary and was wanted for violating his parole.

ARREST: DUI / DUI / HIT & RUN
05-16-2015 1:40 AM
Anza & 48th Ave
Residents called the SFPD when they saw the suspect hit a parked car causing major damage. He then drove off and stopped a short distance away. As officers pulled up, the driver got out and tried to walk away. In the meantime, one of his passengers took over behind the wheel. Officers found that both the first driver and the second driver had a blood alcohol level over the legal limit.
Captain’s Note: Section 23152 of the vehicle code covers drunk driving. In police jargon, DUI cases are called “deuces” since the code section ends with the number 2. I’ll wager that arresting two drunk drivers from the same car qualifies as a pair of deuces… and a full house… for the jail.

ARREST: BATTERY / VANDALISM
05-16-2015 4:08 PM
Sutter & Steiner
A restaurant customer wanted to use the restrooms, but both were occupied. When the impatient customer urinated on the floor instead, the manager asked him to leave. The customer became belligerent and the manager recorded his behavior with a cell phone. On his way out of the restaurant, the customer knocked the phone out of the manager’s hands causing damage to the phone.

CITATION: PUBLIC DEFECATION
05-17-2015 09:35 PM
Geary & Palm
A resident and his 9 year old daughter saw a man defecating along the side of their home. Officers detained the suspect who said that he had just come from visiting his girlfriend who lives a few doors away. He pointed the officers in the direction of some fecal matter in the area, but said the offending material was not his. When officers located the feces in question, the suspect continued to deny ownership but did agree to dispose of same. After signing the citation (please keep the pen as our gift), the suspect used his smart phone to summon a ride from a car sharing service. He did not appear to be intoxicated, ill or homeless.
Captain’s Note: I began this week’s newsletter with a recruitment pitch promising potential candidates that they would get to do extraordinary things as an SFPD officer. I realize that the last two entries don’t really put our best foot forward recruiting-wise (they are more of a reminder to watch your step). On the other hand, if you’re fascinated by unusual behavior, we may have just the job for you.

ARREST: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Cabrillo & 36th Ave
05-17-2015 8:50 PM
The suspect returned home to the apartment that she shares with her ex-boyfriend (they recently broke up) and found him keeping company with another woman. An argument ensued that culminated in the suspect pushing and punching her ex-boyfriend.

TRAFFIC COLLISION WITH INJURY
Fulton & 21st Ave
05-17-2015 5:46 PM
A BMW sedan was turning from southbound 21st Ave to westbound Fulton when it collided with a Piaggio scooter that was westbound on Fulton. The scooter rider sustained moderate injuries and the driver of the car was cited for an unsafe turn.

ARREST: THEFT / TRESPASSING / WARRANTS
Funston & Anza
05-18-2015 4:38 PM
The occupants saw the suspect removing a bike from the backyard and one of them ran out to stop her. The suspect fled on foot and officers arrested her nearby. She also had several warrants for her arrest.

ARREST: DUI
05-18-2015 10:31 PM
California & 5th Ave
An anonymous 911 caller reported a possible drunk driver. Officers located the car and saw that the driver was swerving while driving on a straight road so they detained him for investigation. He was obviously intoxicated and refused to cooperate with the officers. The suspect was already on DUI probation and had a suspended license.

HIT & RUN TRAFFIC COLLISION
05-19-2015 1:24 AM
Fulton & 32nd Ave
Officers responded to a report of a Corolla on its roof. Witnesses told officers that the Corolla hit a parked car and flipped over. They reported seeing the driver get out and walk away, hiding several beer bottles in the bushes as he left.

ARREST: POSSESSION OF BURGLARY TOOLS / SUSPENDED DRIVER’S LICENSE / POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA IN A VEHICLE
05-19-2015 5:55 PM
JFK near 47th Ave in Golden Gate Park
Undercover officers saw a suspect known to them as an auto burglar who is on probation for burglary and who has a suspended driver’s license. When they saw him driving in and out of the golf course parking lot (an area plagued by auto burglaries), they stopped him. He had a window punching tool in his pocket (used to break into cars) and marijuana in his car.

THEFT / PROSTITUTION
05-19-2015 11:30 PM
Cabrillo & 22nd Ave
The victim contacted the suspect online and arranged for the suspect to come to his home to perform specified sexual acts in exchange for money. After the deal had been consummated and the suspect had departed, the victim realized that his laptop was missing.

  1. Hey guys, what happened on 20th and Clement? Two weeks ago there was 5 cops there and two nights ago there was an ambulance and 2 cops showed up. I’m pretty sure it was domestic violence as I was able to hear the cops yelling into the house and a guy yelling and a girl yelling…

  2. To Captain Silverman: Relating to another post on the Hemp Center moving and the ensuing concern among neighbors, could you possibly tell us if there has been any crime activity related to its old location on Geary and 12th?
