BURGLARY OF AN OCCUPIED RESIDENCE
12/03/2015 2:00 AM – 10:30 AM
Anza & 4th Ave
The victim awoke to discover that an unknown suspect had entered through an unlocked back door and stolen items while the victim slept.
Captain’s Note: Please take care to lock your windows and doors.

THEFT
12/03/2015 12:15 PM
Geary & 2nd Ave
In mid October a large fire devastated a multi-tenant building. The victim (one of the burned out tenants) still had some property in an undamaged, locked storage area. When he went to check on his belongings he discovered that someone had stolen his two bicycles.

ARREST: POSSESSION OF STOLEN PROPERTY / ASSAULTING A POLICE OFFICER / RESISTING ARREST / POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA / PROBATION VIOLATION
12/5/2015 11:10 AM
Conservatory Drive West in Golden Gate Park
Citizens waved down an officer on patrol to show him some property they had found (passports and other ID) that looked like it might have been stolen and dumped. As the officer was checking on the property, he saw a suspicious person watching intently from the bushes nearby. The officer went to investigate and the suspect ran away. The officer chased him and the suspect picked up a large tree limb which he swung at the officer, narrowly missing him. He then tried to jab the officer with the limb. The officer used his pepper spray which had minimal effect on the suspect. Other officers arrived and they were eventually able to wrestle the suspect into handcuffs as he fought with them. The suspect had a methamphetamine pipe and additional stolen property in his possession. While all of this was going on, a woman came into Richmond Station to report that her car had been broken into. Guess whose property the suspect was arrested with.
Captain’s Note: This suspect is already on probation for assaulting a police officer.

TRAFFIC COLLISION WITH INJURY
12/05/2015 2:01 PM
Geary & 18th Ave
A motor scooter rider was going westbound on Geary in the right-most lane when she tried to pass the car ahead of her along the right side. She hit the passenger side mirror of the car, lost control and struck the back of a parked car. This resulted in major injuries to the rider.
Captain’s Note: As a rider, I recommend the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Basic Rider Course for anyone new to two wheeled vehicles (even motor scooters). Their website is www.msf-usa.org

BURGLARY OF A STORE
12/05/2015 6:25 PM to 12/06/2015 4:04 AM
Sacramento & Walnut
An unknown suspect broke out the window of a maternity store and stole thousands of dollars worth of maternity clothing resulting in a significant loss for a local independent merchant.

ARREST: POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE FOR SALE / POSSESSION OF OPIATES / WARRANTS
12/08/2015 3:10 AM
Nancy Pelosi & MLK Drive
Officers heard a loud argument taking place in the bushes in Golden Gate Park. They detained a man and a woman and discovered that the man had several warrants for his arrest. After he was in cuffs, officers searched him and found a significant quantity of methamphetamine, over $750 in small bills, a digital scale, plastic baggies and several prescription opiate pills (for which he had no prescription).

ARREST: PUBLIC INTOXICATION / PAROLE VIOLATION
12/08/2015 11:34 PM
Cabrillo & LaPlaya
An officer on patrol saw the suspect slumped over in a bus shelter. The suspect was drooling, semi-coherent, and had a strong smell of alcohol coming from him. He also had a bottle of vodka in his pocket. The suspect repeatedly spat in the direction of the officer and threatened him. He was arrested for public intoxication and continued to spit while in the back of the police car. He was on parole for armed robbery, so officers notified his parole agent of the arrest and the agent put a parole violation hold on him.

BURGLARY OF A RESIDENCE
12/09/2015 10:00 AM
Washington & Locust
A resident heard a loud bang coming from his next door neighbor’s house. He then saw two suspects run down the front steps, jump into a white four door Acura and speed off. Both suspects were wearing hooded clothing which obscured their physical characteristics and the resident saw them so briefly that he could not get a good description. It appears that the suspects entered by breaking a window on a part of the house that is obscured from public view.

PASSING A COUNTERFEIT BILL
12/10/2015 10:51 AM
Clement & 32nd Ave
A store clerk accepted a $50 bill from a customer. Later, the manager suspected that the bill was counterfeit and he called the SFPD. Officers carefully examined the bill and noted the following possible clues that it was not authentic: wrong texture, wrong color, no watermark and the words “FAKE FAKE FAKE” written on the front plus the word “COUNTERFEIT” writ large across the back.

Things Stolen Out of Cars This Week:
Willie Sutton was a prolific American bank robber in the first half of the 20th century. When a reporter asked him why he robbed banks, he reputedly said, “Because that’s where the money is.” Applying Sutton’s maxim to auto burglaries, we derive Silverman’s corollary, “People steal things from cars because other people leave things in cars.” As an offer of proof, here are just some of the things stolen from cars in the Richmond District this week:

  1. Every time I get out of my car I check to see that I haven’t left anything behind. I don’t want Captain Silverman to be disappointed in me.

  2. more enforcement for pedestrian right of way and for speeding on fulton between park presidio and the beach would be most appreciated.

drivers ignore the 30 mph signs, ignore the crossings, and regularly go 40-50. while using stupidphones.

  3. RR: watched an officer the other day, in front of the station on 6th Ave, verbally reprimand (from his car) a driver on texting on their cell phone. The driver was just annoyed, but I was impressed, and it wasn’t like he gave a the guy a ticket — more of a friendly reminder.
