We don’t get a lot of performing arts opportunities within the neighborhood, so we’re passing along an unusual outdoor performance that is coming up.

Dance troupe The Phenomenal Anomalies will present a performance of their original work, “Passerby” on the Lincoln Park steps, located at the end of California Street near 32nd Avenue. About the peformance:

This site-specific contemporary dance piece, constructed by Hannah Westbrook and Becky Robinson-Leviton, was inspired by the beautiful site of the Lincoln Park Steps and the multitudes of people who use them each day. From tourists, to instagram queens, to joggers, animal-walkers, and people of all ages, races, and genders, these steps provide a rich peek into the constant flow of life out here in one of our beloved nooks of SF.

Becky moved to the outer Richmond in 2017 and says the dance was inspired by “the wide variety of wonderful interactions they had with different individuals while rehearsing on the steps”. The dance duo founded their company “out of a love for the awkward, mismatched, oxymoron, and non-sequitur characterizations that overall unify humanity.”

Performances will take place on the steps on two Saturdays – March 24 and 31 – at 2pm and 4pm each day, and will be accompanied by live music.

  1. Watched them practicing for a bit last weekend. If that was anything to go by, it’ll be a pretty great show!
