Neighbors startled awake on Tuesday by DEA raid on 5th Ave

On Tuesday, neighbors on 5th Avenue had an early morning wake up call around 6am thanks to a DEA raid on a house between Geary and Anza.

Federal agents were at the house to execute a search warrant. They were assisted by the SFPD, as well as FBI, Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations Division, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Woah, that’s a lot of fed right there.

“We assisted with the feds on exercising a search warrant for a location suspected of having narcotics,” said SFPD Officer Robert Rueca to the Examiner.

The search effort also had overhead assistance. One neighbor said he was awakened at 5:45am by the droning of a low flying prop plane.

No arrests were made during the raid, because the man they were looking for had already left town according to one agent on the scene.

But that didn’t slow down the search which went on for 3 hours. One neighbor reported seeing Hazmat vehicles and agents, in full camouflage gear with submachine guns, carrying large bags of evidence out of the residence.

  2. Similar helicopter flying very low in the area between 8th/Funston & Carrillo/Anza this morning. Another raid?

  3. Mr. Polite – let’s see if you think it’s overkill when it’s your job to raid drug dens, better safe than sorry. I’m a little shocked this sort of thing was in the neighborhood and grateful to have it legally handled by trained individuals.

Walt – How do you know what type of narcotics they removed? Dope is legal within one’s own residence and dispensaries legally sell it. BigHeart linked to an Examiner article with different #facts.

  4. When the feds are involved it’s always overkill. Dawn raids. Air support. Camouflage. Multi agency effort. But only because the feds can’t handle anything on their own. They need to rely on our local agencies to help them do their bidding.
