Saturday events: Outer Balboa Holiday Market, Arion Press Open House

The Richmond District is gearing up for the holidays, and there are a couple of interesting events to check out this Saturday:

The Balboa Jingle Holiday Market

On Saturday from 11am until 5pm, the Balboa Village Merchants Association presents The Balboa Jingle Holiday Market, an open air gift market featuring handmade gifts, goods and wares from a variety of local shops and vendors in Balboa Village (Balboa Street between 30th and 40th Avenues in San Francisco). Head to 37th & Balboa to start your jingling.

If you haven’t been to outer Balboa Street recently, put this event on your list! New boutiques like BlueStone Pottery (3425 Balboa St.) and Eye & Hand Society (689 37th Ave) have opened recently, not to mention the abundance of popular eateries along the corridor like Kio Ramen, Cassava, Butter Love Bakeshop and Marla Bakery. Arion Press Open House

Ever wonder who those smokestacks inside the 14th Avenue Presidio Gate belong to? They’re part of Arion Press (1802 Hays Street, The Presidio), a historic printing and bookmaking facility, as well as a gallery featuring the works that are published by the institution.

On Saturday, Arion will host their annual Open House, offering free self-guided tours of the historic typefoundry, pressroom, and bindery. And you can even print your own broadside and learn to sew a book. The open house runs from 10am until 4pm; enter in through the 14th Avenue Presidio gate just off Lake Street.
