Video: Balboa Street Dry Cleaner and Laundromat businesses burglarized on Wednesday

The Clement Street Merchants group this week received news that two businesses on Balboa Street were burglarized in the early hours of Wednesday, March 6.

The video below shows the break-in at Crystal Cleaners located on the corner of 3rd Avenue and Balboa. According to the timestamp, the burglar shattered the glass on the front door at 5:44am on Wednesday morning and entered the premises.

The thief, who appears to be male, is dressed in all black with a hood. He calmly heads to the cash register and pulls it from the counter, tucking it under his arm as he leaves. He checks a couple of counter drawers as well, and exits the premises after 65 seconds. The surveillance video shows that lights were on inside the business, but the thief never turns his face to the camera so it’s impossible to identify him.

That same morning, police also received report of a burglary at the Clean-X-Press Laundromat on the corner of 7th Avenue and Balboa. Their change machine was stolen from the premises.

If anyone has any information on these burglaries, please contact the Richmond District police station at (415) 666-8000.

  1. There are businesses that leave cash in the register overnight? Seems a bit risky. Hopefully the thief walked off with an empty register.

  2. The burglar crossed to & from the SE corner that intersection. I wonder if the camera at that building and/or Kent Cleaner might have gotten a view of his face. Looks like a North Face jacket.

  3. It seems to me I remember business leaving their cash registers open with the empty cash drawer clearly visible to discourage these kind of often pointless burglaries.

  4. Looks like he dropped a piece of paper as he steps through the broken glass to leave.

  5. that’s my dry cleaners. last week, every mailbox on arguello was broken into. i think its great that the cops no longer patrol the district at night
