If we can’t *change* the climate, can we restore it? CoLab event on Climate Restoration at Internet Archive this Sunday

This Sunday, the 2019 Climate Restoration Technology CoLab is taking place at the Internet Archive (300 Funston).

As the issue of climate change becomes more urgent, another radical idea called climate restoration is being discussed among scientists, environmentalists and engineers. The concept? To restore a safe and healthy climate like we had 100 years ago.

The Foundation for Climate Restoration defines it like this: “Climate Restoration is the global endeavor to return the Earth’s climate systems to the safe and healthy state in which humanity and our natural world evolved. This requires returning atmospheric CO2 to safe levels of less than 300 parts per million (ppm) and restoring sufficient Arctic ice to prevent permafrost melt and the resulting disastrous methane emissions. It is possible and it is achievable, both technically and financially.”

On Sunday, the Internet Archive will be the venue for a Technology CoLab, a collaboration event to foster cooperation between organizations in the SF Bay Area working to restore the climate. The goals of the event are to promote communication, collaboration and partnerships between Bay Area carbontech and climate restoration organizations, and to create a road map for Bay Area mobilization, events and activities which aim to raise awareness and support climate restoration solutions.

The event runs from 9:30am until 4pm and includes a variety of programs including keynote speakers and breakout sessions. The suggested registration fee is $25 but no one turned away for lack of funds according to the event’s website. If you’d like to attend, register here.
