Jog in the Fog 5k enjoys fog AND sun in its 7th year

This family sported a suite of race shirts from years past!

On Sunday, hundreds came out for the 7th annual Richmond District Jog in the Fog 5k presented by Kaiser Permanente. Runners lined up in the starting area in Mountain Lake Park with fog overhead, but received a sunny welcome at the finish line at Lands End.

After some welcome speeches from Supervisor Sandra Fewer, Geoff Gordon-Creed of the YMCA, and Race Director Sarah Bacon, the run was underway after the sounding of the traditional fog horns used to start every year’s race.

This year’s race was very competitive with new course records set in both the men’s and Boys 12 & under field.

Grant Johnson, 36, set a new course record with a finish of 20:17. On the youth side, 11 year old Woody Szydlik also set a record with a speedy finish of 25:08.

Lots of runners also completed the extra Mile Rock Challenge towards the end of their run along the Lands End trail. Challengers had to descend the stairs to Mile Rock Beach, collect a chip, and then redeem it at the finish for a prize from race sponsor Precor.

Other sponsors of this year’s race included Build Group, Sequoia Real Estate, Turtle Rabbit Physical Therapy, San Francisco Federal Credit Union, Gordon-Creed, Kelley, Holl & Sugermen, Green Apple Books, Angelina’s Deli & Cafe, A Runner’s Mind and Precor. Peet’s Coffee and Grocery Outlet donated coffee and water for the finish area.

Proceeds from Jog in the Fog benefit the Richmond District YMCA, which totaled just over $16,000 this year thanks to race registrations, sponsorships from many local businesses, and a great group of volunteers.

If you participated in Sunday’s race, online results are available here, and finish line photos can be viewed and downloaded here.

Thanks to everyone who supported this year’s race. We’ll see you next year!
