Memorial Day service with the USS San Francisco

I saw a sign today at 48th Avenue and Point Lobos for a Navy-Marine Memorial Service tomorrow, May 24, from 12noon – 1:30pm.

According to the USS San Francisco’s website, the “Memorial Service is dedicated to the 100 Sailors & 7 Marines killed in action during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, November 12/13 – 1942. The “Frisco”saw action from 7 December 1941 at Pearl Harbor – A Date which will live in Infamy “to the final battle of World War ll.”

Among the list of participants and honored guests are Mayor Gavin Newson, our Richmond Supervisor Eric Mar, our Assemblywoman, Fiona Ma, along with our State Senator Leland Yee.

The service will be held at Land’s End (at the end near the Cliff House) from 12 noon until 1:30pm. For more history on the USS San Francisco (CA-38), visit their official website at http://www.usssanfrancisco.org/.
