Last year, portions of a short film called Double Features were shot at the Balboa Theater.
The plot goes something like this: One night at the cinema, a heartbroken man waits for a date that never shows, while a lonely projectionist searches for love. Together they find that at the movies, anything can happen.
Check out the trailer below. You’ll see some lovely shots of the Balboa’s lobby, projectionist booth and vivid marquee. Balboa Manager Austin and Chief Projectionist Jim Cassedy even have credits on the film as Projection and Technical Advisors.
Double Features will have its San Francisco theatrical premiere on Thursday, September 24 at 8:00pm at the brand new VIZ Cinema in Japantown as part of the APAture Festival. More info & tickets
