Urban bicycling workshop at the Richmond police station, July 17

This Sunday, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is offering a free introductory course on cycling in the city. If you commute by bicycle or use it to get around the city, this is a great chance to pick up tips on how to safely get yourself from point A to point B.

The four-hour, in-classroom course covers the basics for how to choose the right bike and properly fit a helmet as well as tips for the safest ways to ride in traffic. Learn techniques for how to avoid or handle road hazards and emergency maneuvers along, the best way to lock up your bike, how to use your bike in combination with public transit, and a review of biking rights and responsibilities.

The workshop will take place this Sunday, July 17th from 10am until 2pm at the Richmond District Police Station, 461 6th Avenue near Geary. The class is open to ages 14 and over. Advance sign up on the SFBC website is required (select “Intro to Safe Cycling” course).
