  1. Stopping traffic? Maybe on Fulton….Maybe. If she were on Polk no one would even look twice, though. Nothing is really bizarre or shocking here. Just part of the landscape.

  2. Having never been to San Francisco, I find the views of the Pacific Ocean I see on the images posted within this richmondsfblog.com to be breathtaking. It’s just so unbelieveable (to me anyway) that one can travel down many of the east-west streets thoughout the outer Richmond and the outer Sunset and be treated to such magnificent views upon arrival at their most western ends. (Based on my map-only knowledge of San Francisco, I’d say this part of Fulton Street is perhaps near 46th Avenue?) I can’t imagine a day that I’d ever grow tired or nonchalant of seeing the Pacific Ocean on a daily basis if I lived in San Francisco. Gimmicky things like the hitchhiker are short-lived novelties, but the vistas and prospects afforded in San Francisco…well, that’s what truly is worth taking pictures of!

  3. You are right, Randall! It is always special to come over the crest of a hill on an east/west street and see the ocean spread out in front of you!

  4. funny how we become so jaded over time. having driven that route hundreds or thousands of times, even to go surfing at ocean beach, i forget to realize just how special that view truly is!

  5. Does anyone else care that one of the best of the best views of the ocean, seen while driving west on Geary/Point Lobos, is now blocked by the Lands End Visitor’s Center?

  6. @Sallie: I’m actually OK with it since that area tends to be pedestrian/traffic heavy (I would rather drivers focus on driving). The center may actually encourage drivers to truly take in the view by pulling into the parking lot and take a walk through the landscape. The visitor center also provides a place for people to learn more about the fabulous history of the western edge of our District.

  7. I have to agree with Mel. Although the visitor center does obscure part of the view coming over the hill drivers should be more focused on the road and not the vast ocean ahead of them. I was just at Lands End last weekend and if one is to pull into the parking lot the view is not blocked at all by the new building at all. My understanding is that this center will offer a lot of information on the history of the area and the money raised will be used to keep the trails maintained and general upkeep for the park. Plus I noticed new public restrooms attached no more porta potties, that is much more sanitary and nicer for everyone.
