Police Blotter – September 5, 2013

CAPTAIN SHARON FERRIGNO’S MESSAGE
Last night 39 members of the San Francisco Police Department were awarded Medals of Honor for acts of heroism in protecting the public and taking action when no other would sense it. Congratulations to the seven officers who were awarded the silver medal of valor. The requirement for a silver Medal of Valor is to risk one’s life with full and unquestionable knowledge of the danger, when a reasonable person would assume that their life was in great danger. Thirty two officers were awarded the bronze medal of valor. The ceremony was held at the Legion of Honor.

This Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 10:30am, we will celebrate the Police-Fire Mass at St. Monica’s Church on Geary BlVD. It’s a time in which we can reflect on those who have recently passed, celebrate those amongst us and be grateful for all we have. The mass is open to the public if you would like to attend.

Our next Community meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 6pm. It will be in the Community Room, here at Richmond Station, 461 6th Ave.

NOTEWORTHY ARRESTS
On 08/30/13 at 5pm, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Beaumont on a call of a male casing vehicles. Officers located the suspect and detained him. They could not find any vehicles that had been broken into. Officers conducted a warrant check and the male had two outstanding warrants from San Luis Obispo, one for a parole violation and one for burglary. The 39 year old male was booked on his warrants.

On 08/31/13 at 9:38pm, officers were called to 7th Ave and Cabrillo on a report of a male breaking into a coin machine at the Laundromat. Officer detained the male and there was no evidence of a theft. The 40 year old male did have outstanding warrants for his arrest including a narcotics warrant. He was booked on the warrants.

On 09/01/13 at 8:15pm officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at 8th and Balboa Sts for a moving violation. When the officers approached the vehicle they could smell marijuana emanating from within. Further investigation developed and the vehicle was going to be towed. The occupants were removed from the car and upon searching the vehicle prior to being towed; officers discovered a handgun and a loaded magazine behind the rear seat armrest. One of the occupants claimed the handgun belonged to him and he had brought it to San Francisco while visiting, for protection. The three occupants, 18yrs, 20yrs and 24yrs, were charged with firearm related charges

On 09/02/13 at 1:20pm, officers were called to the 300 block of 2nd Ave on a suspicious male loitering in the area. Officers located the suspect and determined he was on probation. He had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for burglary and was also in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana. The 43 year old male was booked accordingly.

On 09/02/13 at 8pm, on the unit block of Blake, a caller was reporting that a male was walking down the block, doing graffiti on the walls of a home. Officers located the male on Geary and he was identified by the witness. The 31 year old male was charged with felony vandalism.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS
On 08/31/13 at 1:30am, the victim was walking on the 300 block of 26th Ave. A tan colored vehicle, possibly an older model Honda or Toyota, pulled up next to him and two suspects exited and approached him. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun and demanded the victim’s property. The victim handed over his duffle bag that had clothing and tablet computer. The other suspect “patted” him down and took his wallet and cell phone. The suspects then fled to the vehicle which was being driven by a third person, and they fled south on 26th Ave. The suspects were described as two black males, 20-30yrs, one had a diamond studded earring and black clothing, the other was wearing a black beanie and dark clothing.

Between 08/31/13, 4pm and 09/02/13, 6pm on the 300 block of 28th Ave, a suspect entered a garage by unknown means and took two bikes, a sleeping bag and a tent.

Between 08/31/13, 9:30pm and 09/01/13, 9am on the 600 block of 25th Ave, a suspect entered a garage of a multi-unit building. The suspect took checks and a jacket from inside an unlocked vehicle parked inside. The suspect also took a bin from a shelf that contained tools. There were no signs of forced entry.

On 09/03/13 at 10:30pm on the 2900 block of Bush St, the victim was walking his dog when he was approached by two suspects, one armed with a handgun. The suspects demanded his property and the suspect gave them his cell phone. The suspects fled eastbound on Broderick. They were described as black males, one with dreadlocks and a black hooded sweatshirt, the other was possibly bald wearing a black shirt.

One 09/04/13 at 12:34am, the victims were walking on the 2500 block of Sutter St when one of them was pushed from behind. The victim’s turned around and saw the suspect armed with a handgun. The suspect demanded their property and the female victim gave them her purse which contained two cell phones, a wallet and cash. The suspect was a black male, 20-25yrs, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.
